Following is a general set of steps a
patient at risk for hereditary cancer can take:
- Take the quick and easy Hereditary Cancer Quiz on this site.
- Print quiz results in preparation for cancer risk
assessment. (If a patient does not already have a
doctor that provides cancer risk assessment and genetic
testing, he or she may search
for a center on this site.)
- Discuss family history and concerns regarding hereditary
cancers with a health care provider. (Patients may want to learn
more about their risk for cancer by gathering family
cancer history using the Cancer History Guide.)
- A small amount of blood will need to be drawn and
sent to Myriad Genetic Laboratories for analysis.
(Order a test kit.)
- Test results are available approximately four weeks after testing starts (or test start date).
After receiving test results, you should discuss medical
management options with your patients.
