Federal and state laws prohibit
health insurance discrimination against patients who undergo
genetic testing. The Federal
Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act of 1996
protects patients in group health insurance plans from discrimination
based on genetic information.
Myriad Genetic Laboratories only discloses patient test results to the ordering healthcare provider unless the patient provides a written request to disclose results to another party. Test results are never disclosed to a patient's insurance carrier (even if that carrier covers the cost of testing) without the written permission of the patient.
