Benefits of Testing
COLARIS AP® can help you to understand if your family history of cancer is the result of either FAP, AFAP, or MAP. Knowing whether or not you have a polyposis syndrome, and identifying which one, guides decisions and actions that can help prevent cancer or detect it at an earlier, more treatable stage.
- A positive result allows you to immediately help reduce your risk of a first or second cancer by earlier and more frequent screening strategies. In some cases risk may be eliminated through preventive surgery
- A negative result rules out a common cause of hereditary colorectal cancer and may reduce worry about passing high risk onto children
- Healthcare professionals can use the information to guide their plan for medical or surgical treatment
- Results for one family member can give other members important information about their own level of risk
Limitations of Testing
- Testing does not detect all causes of hereditary cancer
- A negative result is most helpful when there is a known mutation in the family
- Some variants are of unknown clinical significance

"I think having genetic testing has been beneficial in our situation. With the COLARIS AP® test, we already knew who was at (increased) risk in our family situation, and who wasn't."
— Jane, APC mutation positive for FAP
